TriCougars: College of Charleston Triathlon

Training Camp

February 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The University of Georgia is hosting a triathlon training camp March 6-8.
This is the last weekend of our spring break. It is put on by the conference, SECTC. Here is the message I received…

SECTC!
It’s looking like the training weekend will be scheduled March 6-8 at UGA. If you were at The University of Alabama last February, you know how great of a camp this is. Once again, we’ll have Justin Trolle (USAT’s Athlete Development Manager) and a lot of other great coaches.
Just this year, it will be all collegiate (no Juniors) so Justin and all the other coaches will be spending all their time with us. Also, this is a great time to meet other collegiate athletes in our conference and make tons of new friends!

Tentative Topics Covered:
Swimming (probably stroke analysis)
Cycling
Running
Transitions
Strength Training
Flexibility (Yoga/Pilates) Training
Nutrition (Collegiate Friendly)

We’ll have a catered meal one night and we will hopefully be providing some money for each team to help with Hotel rooms like we did last year.

Clinic Cost: Free. Usually clinics like this are $150/weekend. But
because this is through USAT Southeast, we can use Region money for this at no cost to you!

If anyone is interested, please let me know ASAP!!! If you don’t have plans for spring break, this is sure to be a lot of fun and a good opportunity to meet other triathletes in the conference. Again, let me know ASAP!!

Thanks,

2009 Information

January 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hello-

Thank you to all who came to the meeting last night, I really appreciate your attendance.

Here is a recap of all that was discussed:

1. Liability Release- I need EVERYONE to sign this so I can turn it into the director of club sports ASAP. The gist of it says that you understand the risks associated with this sport and won’t sue to college in the event that something goes wrong. In addition, it is a medical authorization form as well so again, in the event that something goes wrong, you can receive the proper medical attention. Not that we’re expecting anything to go wrong but its procedure.

2. Emergency Contact and Allergies- I need an emergency contact for everyone participating. Once again, this is a precaution. Please also list any allergies or medical issues that we need to be aware of, like asthma.

3. Practices- Based on the schedules of people in attendance, we decided on the following practice schedule. Keep in mind that this might change after it starts to get darker later and the weather warms up, but for now, this is it. PRACTICES BEGIN MONDAY JAN. 26.

Monday- Long Run, 4:30, meet at the fountain behind the library.
Tuesday- Swim 7:30-9 at the Stern Center Pool
Wed- Bike 4:00, plan on 2 hoursish, meet at the fountain behind the library.
Thurs-Swim 7:30-9 Stern Center Pool
Fri- Run 3:00, meet at the fountain behind the library
Sat- OFF
Sun- 11 am Brick (Bike then Run, so bring a change of shoes with you) Meet at 11 A Smith St. (Sorry boys, everyone volunteered your house. Let me know if this is a problem)

4. Races- Parris Island Sprint Tri Saturday March 16 and East Cooper Tri April 20th. I am in the process of finding another race, preferrably an olympic but I’ll let everyone know about that soon.

5. Shirts- Tinja is working on a design. More info to come.

6. Website- Its still there, if anyone wants to add anything let me know.

7. Uniforms- We’re working on it.

8. Budget- We’ll find out Monday or Tuesday how much we either get or don’t get. As soon as I find out, you will too.

9. Dues- I HATE saying this but we need to start incorporating dues. It will be something small, $50 a semester but it is neccessary. We haven’t had them before because we were a new club and we didn’t want to chase anyone away. However, they are now neccessary in order for us to get money from the school. They need to see that we are creating funds on our end as well and putting forth equal effort. You WILL get this money back however in the form of a race registration, tshirt, etc. More on this to come…

Thanks again and as always, let me know if I can answer any questions.

Last Swim for the Season and Spring Planning

December 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Hello-

Just a reminder we will have a swim practice tonight from 7:30-9. It will be the last organized practice of the semester due to exams. Good luck to everyone!!

Also, thinking ahead to Spring I was hoping you all could give me some feedback on your schedules so we can create a tentative practice schedule. Please send me times that would either be good for you or times to avoid so we can accommodate as many people as possible. We will be stepping up the intensity in January and hopefully start meeting at least 5 days a week, or as often as everyone can make it.

Again, good luck and I hope to see you all at the pool tonight!

Thanks,

Marina.

Second swim workout added

December 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Hey guys–

We will be adding another pool swim Mondays from 7:30-9 in addition to the Thursday swim from 7:30-9. This really only affects this week and next Monday as I’m sure they will be changing the pool hours during exams.

We are currently meeting twice a week for a pool swim. More practices will be added come spring semester. For those of you who are new, we will have another informational meeting in January. Until then, please come out and join us! Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience level. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Thanks,

Marina Fleming

Nationals and Other Races

April 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

TriCougars,

First, East Cooper Tri was this weekend and Siobhan Maize won the -FEMALE AGE GROUP: 35 – 39. Way represent the club on the home front!

Wow what a weekend! I have been going to this race for a few years and I am surprised that every year it gets bigger and faster. For example the women’s race was won in 2:07:30 and the men’s race was won in 1:52:34 on a hilly course. There were 454 men and 265 women in the undergraduate division. It was huge!! Here is a link to a video produced by the local media on the race:
http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20080420/NEWS/659935593/1015/NEWS
We learned a lot about what big time triathlon is about while watching the oly trials races…Matty Reed!!!!

As a team I think we did great given that this was our first year as a club and most of y’all can count the number of tri you have done on one hand. We were also going up against schools that have 5times as many students as CofC. In the coming years we will only get better as we pick more experience and members.
